First trip out of Shanghai!
And to begin the trip, 2 guys in front of us started smoking! On the plane! TWICE!
It was about a 40min taxi ride to the hotel where we all headed to our rooms and met up
the next day. Had no idea until the next morning that we could see the beach
from our hotel room!
Part of the group (earlier risers) headed down to breakfast then to the beach before it was beer festival time! The beach was better than I expected - no white sand, reddish sand but the water felt warmer than California to B and I! I also never expected to see so many naked children running around....some were even border line of too old - awkward.....
Feet in the China Sea!
Pondering China.....
Part of the group!
Todd, Rebecca, Debbie, (Shawn taking the picture), and us!
Qingdao 2013!
Chinese characters in the sand!
B tried to wheel and deal some jet skies - 'Ta Gui La' !
Too expensive!
We gathered the rest of the group and headed out for beer!
Sights along the way:
Corn. This will have to be a special post all to itself.....Chinese eat corn here all day long, I just don't get it. Here it is for sale on the side of the road.
It was really hot out - cooler than Shanghai but still in the upper 90s.
When it gets hot in Asia, men like to raise their shirts above their bellies as shown:
And put babies on cardboard in the shade??
We made it!
At the Tiger Beer tent for beer and entertainment!
Gan Bei, China!
Ouch!
Kid friendly characters drink beer too!
Who knew a beer festival would also be a fashion show!
There was one vendor selling wedding dresses!
Snack, anyone?
Brandon as Ronald's puppet!
Qingdao!
We all headed back to the hotel to shower (all so gross because it was so HOT!) and rest before returning to the festival in the evening. We were hoping to see more people and entertainment in the evening; very strange to be at a beer festival where no one was really drinking beer! Strange...
We made our way to to a beer garden at the back of the festival where we were part of the show!
Chinese people kept coming up to our table wanting to drink with us - at one point when we were all out of beer, a Chinese guy said 'one moment....' ran away, came back with his full glass and put a little beer in each person's cup! Hysterical! They are much more friendly in Qingdao than Shanghai!
The boys did a lot of drinking with the locals, including some girls - they could flat out drink!
The tradition is to have two full glasses of beer, yell "Gan Bei!" or cheers then chug your beer!
Here are the guys in action!
And then we made a beer tower!
We were SO HOT and decided to find some air conditioning for the remainder of the evening.
We made our way into the nearest indoor pavilion and found an air vent!
So good!!!
The night ended early at only 10pm but the walk out was very.....interesting.......
Check out the drunks and pee-ers!
When you gotta go.....you gotta go.....and in China.....wherever you are, you go......
And of course the evening wouldn't be complete without a Harry Potter re-enactment with authentic Chinese street sweeping broom!
Day 2: Tsingtao Brewery next!
