Chengdu, China

This past weekend we flew 3 hours west of Shanghai to Chengdu, China - home of panda bears!  The city of Chengdu sits in a basin which makes the temperature very mild year round which is why the pandas love it there :)  More on the pandas in another post!

We met our guide, Laura, at the airport and she took us to our hotel.  Along the way she explained some history of the city and told us that as Chengdu sits in the Sichuan province and Sichuan women are 'spicy!'  She also said the people of Chengdu are more friendly than those in Shanghai.  We experienced someone saying 'Welcome to Chengdu' to us in English no less and we just thought we were being scammed - city problems...

The city itself is very lovely - a metropolitan city like Shanghai just not as big, spacious, cleaner, with lots of beautiful planting around the streets.  Our first day in town, we walked around the city taking in local sights:

patchwork parking lot, view from hotel room

 Commander takes in the view!

pineapple street snack!

 lovely!

 Chairman Mao at Tianfu Square!

Mao selfie!

 Tianfu Square

B is also 27!
What a store name!

found a lovely park with some great architecture - there was some type of festival happening with an abundance of dancing women, meat on sticks, and karaoke!

Old men in this park were writing with water on the cement and letting it disappear; was beautiful to watch :)

that's some crazy wires!

 Hooters Chengdu!
Of course we went!

Nightime view!

Tomorrow, Leshan and the Giant Buddha!
