Memorial Day Weekend - DAFF & Brunch

6 years ago today I met a very handsome sailor in a bar in New York City.

They may have cancelled Fleet Week this year in the city (yes, due to budget cuts, blasphemy!) but it's still my most favorite time of the year!

On Saturday we met a coworker of mine (Laura) and her husband (Eric) at an area in Shanghai called 'The Cool Docks' literally....

We had lunch then walked across the street to the riverfront where there was a design, art, and fashion fair called DAFF.  Artists creating on the street, great pieces for sale for some pretty great prices, good people watching, and more art culture for Brandon.  I told him I will turn him artsy yet!

and some lovely street art outside the fair:

To get back to the subway, we had to walk through a very local neighborhood consisting of what seemed to be very poor homes but a local street market selling fresh vegetables, fabrics, shoes, etc.
I didn't take any photos of the neighborhood, not that brave yet, but just before the neighborhood there was an area in ruins - I took a few quick shots because you can certainly find beauty in anything!  I also love the juxtaposition out here of old vs. new!

We headed to brunch today (Sunday) with Laura and Eric at 'Madison' in the French Concession neighborhood.  I had a yummy corn beef hash with fried egg and B had a chicken and waffle sandwich!  Comfort food!  We also had to get a basket of DUCK FAT DISCO FRIES for the table - how could you resist with that name!!??!!!

Awesomely yummy!

Afterwards we headed to 'Painters Street' where several artists have their work (and several copies of others' work.....very good copies in some cases!) that you can bargain for and decorate your place.  We didn't buy anything just yet but B and I did both agree on one artist that we LOVED!  He was selling mainly large pieces so we will be back to buy one (or several) other pieces before our adventure ends!
